Stefana is a US born multi-passion designer. An avid traveler and endlessly curious, she has followed her passion for sustainable, ethical and natural design methodologies all over the world. Before moving to South America to found a design company, GIGAGRASS, with her partner Colombian architect Simon Velez she has participated in various exclusive design incubators in Hong Kong, Switzerland, Italy, Jordan as well as a one year Research Fellowship as a US Fulbright Scholar in Serbia studying vernacular architecture. As a Fulbright Scholar she worked closely with the US Embassy and University of Belgrade. She studied Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, as well as Classical Painting at the New York Academy of Art and Art Students League of NY. She received a BA in Architecture and M.Arch from Columbia University in New York, New York.

For the past 8 years she has lived and worked in Colombia, where she manages GIGAGRASS design studio focused on working with bamboo and other natural materials. Under her guidance, the studio has explored new research and development opportunities in the field of bamboo design, in particular prefabrication techniques. Gigagrass has shown prefabrication projects in Arles, France (2018); Paris France (2022); Venice, Italy (2021); and Doha, Qatar (2022).

​Stefana has been the recipient of the US Fulbright Fellowship (2011), ThinkSwiss Research Fellowship (2010), and RISD Artist of the Year (2005). She has presented research and design work in the previous years at MoMA PS1 (2012), Fulbright Foundation in Greece (2011), the National Library in Serbia (2011), Center for Architecture in New York (2012), Middle Eastern Research Center in Jordan (201), EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland (2010), AIA Queens Chapter (2010), and Politechnico di Milano (2010).
