Bamboo Research & Development
Ecotableros was a pioneering bamboo mill and fabrication workshop in Chinchiná, Colombia, strategically located near the region’s Guadua bamboo plantations to ensure direct access to premium raw materials. More than just a processing facility, Ecotableros housed a team of highly skilled craftsmen, who not only hand-selected and graded bamboo for structural applications but also refined advanced re-engineering techniques to push the boundaries of bamboo-based construction.
Materials & Construction
Our collaboration focused on research, development, and industrial-scale production of engineered bamboo products, bridging traditional craftsmanship with precision manufacturing. The factory’s flagship innovation was a cross-laminated bamboo board (CLB)—a high-performance plywood alternative, designed for structural applications, exported globally. Additionally, we developed custom laminated bamboo structural elements, including bamboo strap-reinforced components, for the Caravane Earth Pop-Up Art Village, advancing the integration of bamboo in reciprocal and compression-based structures.
Beyond product innovation, I played a key role in rebranding and expanding Ecotableros' market presence, positioning it as a leader in engineered bamboo solutions for international timber construction. Through a commitment to material innovation and scalability, Ecotableros demonstrated that bamboo can rival conventional wood products, offering renewable, high-strength, and adaptable alternatives for the future of sustainable construction.
